1998-2001 (first era)
Windows DVD Player was introduced in 1998 for Windows 98, Windows 2000 and Windows Me. Windows DVD Player was dropped in Windows XP in favor of a built-in DVD playback functionality on Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center.
2015-present (second era)
After Microsoft drops Windows Media Center on Windows 10, which this was the only option to play DVD movies after Microsoft dropped the built-in DVD playback functionality on Windows Media Player in Windows 8, Microsoft relaunches the DVD Player app as a paid UWP-based app, which it can be purchase via Microsoft Store.
