The Datsun brand was resurrected in 2012 for use in emerging markets such as India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa.

In 2020, Nissan had announced plans to end the Datsun brand in an attempt to cut $2.8 billion in annual costs, though the Datsun brand continues to be used in India. In April 2022, Nissan announced that Datsun brand would be discontinued.
