Roches Stores was founded in 1901 as a single store in Cork by William Roche and grew to eleven stores across Ireland.
Debenhams[]
1996–2018[]
Debenhams first entered Ireland in 1996 as one of the original anchor tenants of the Jervis Shopping Centre in Dublin. A second store opened as an anchor tenant for Mahon Point Shopping Centre in Cork in 2005.
On 8 August 2006, it was announced that Debenhams would acquire the leases for nine of the 11 Roches Stores for €29 million. Under the deal, the stores would be rebranded as Debenhams branches. The Roche family retained ownership of the stores, with Debenhams becoming the new unit tenants.
2018–2020[]
Debenhams (plc) went into administration in April 2020. On 9 April 2020, Debenhams Ireland confirmed that the company would be leaving the Republic of Ireland. It disclosed that the stores would not reopen after the lifting of the Government of Ireland's COVID-19 restrictions due to the possibility of uncertain economic conditions in Ireland following the crisis. Debenhams Ireland would file for liquidation starting 13 April 2020.
