The Lions first began using this logo on their helmets in the 1961 NFL season, but it would not become the primary logo until 1970.
2003–2008[]
The outline in this version was changed from Honolulu Blue to a thicker black one.
2009–2017[]
After their infamous winless 0-16 campaign of 2008, the Lions decided to put that season behind them by refreshing their logo to make it look fiercer; the lion now has eyes and looks more detailed than the 1961 logo. Black was retained as an accent color.
2017–present[]
On February 1, 2017, the Detroit Lions unveiled a tweaked logo from the previous primary design. The only difference was the change in the color of the outline, going from black to silver after the team removed black from their color palette.
