Digital 8 is a consumer-grade digital video format that was created by Sony in 1998. This format uses regular Video 8 / Hi8 cassettes, but the signal is decoded digitally using the DV codec used on the Mini DV format. You can record up to 60 minutes of digital video in SP mode using a 120-minute Hi8 tape. The format was discontinued in 2007.
