In January 2008, Discovery Communications announced the launch of the OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network which was scheduled to replace Discovery Health in 2009.

Discovery Health continued broadcasting as before until the eventual launch of OWN. They even introduced a new logo which was based on the new Discovery Channel logo. The launch of OWN was postponed several times, extending the life of Discovery Health until it was finally replaced on January 1, 2011. However, it was relaunched one month later, merging with FitTV to become Discovery Fit & Health.
