The Indian version of Disney Channel launched on 17 December 2004. [1] Initially it showed live-action productions in addition to animate shows, but since 2016 it has focused solely on animated cartoons, especially from India and Japan. Therefore it is one of the only Disney Channels globally not to show the American Disney Channel’s live-action shows, but this role is performed in India by Disney International HD.

An HD feed was scheduled to be launched on 1 December 2021, along with an HD feed of Hungama, and Marvel HQ being renamed to Super Hungama, while BabyTV HD was to be withdrawn from India.[2] However, on 26 November 2021, these launches were indefinitely postponed, due to a delay in the TRAI’s new tariff rules. They are now expected to launch some time in 2022.[3]
