Disney Channel 1997 logo

These are the idents used in Disney Channel (International) from 1 May 1999 until 15 March 2003.

Short Summary

In 1 May 1999, Disney Channel International unveiled a new logo and new idents created by GÉDÉON (who did the first 9 idents), which is a France-based graphic design company, along with other international design agencies, such as Toronto-based Gamma Studios, German graphics company Pedall, and Mexico-based animation studio Estructura7. The Circles idents succeeds the previous Red and Blue idents and were replaced by the Bounce/Ribbon idents and the 'hip' look on 15 March 2003.

About the Idents

The 1999 idents feature three circular objects forming the Mickey Mouse head in many different ways. Each ident is either created from CGI, live action, or traditional 2D hand-drawn animation. The logo is accompanied by the "Disney Channel" text on the bottom of the logo, where the "Disney" text is in Walt Disney's signature font, and the Channel text is in IDK font. All idents also include the 3-note jingle (E-G-C) which was first introduced on 22 March 1997. Some idents had different pitched versions of the jingle (B-D-G, A-C-F, etc.). Some people thought the 3-note jingle represented the three circles of the logo itself or the pronunciation of the channel's name (Dis-ney Channel).

When the new logo was first launched, 9 idents appear with the new look. Then new idents by different companies appeared starting on June 1999. The first 9 idents were Discoball, Raindrops, Pumpkins, Computer, Laboratory, Clouds, Chrome Blob, Spotlights, and Soap Bubbles.

Starting on 21 November 2000, all idents feature the URL of a Disney Channel International website depending on the region, such as www.disneychannel.co.uk in the UK, disneychannel.fr in France, disneychannel.it in Italy, disneyme.com in the Middle East, disneychannel-asia.com in Asia, disneychannel.de in Germany, and disneychannel.com.au in Australia. In some occasions, the idents feature the slogan of a regional version of Disney Channel International, such as Libera la tua Immaginazione in Italy, and L'Imaginachaine in France, which are seen under the "Disney Channel" text. Also, custom logos for specific shows are also made, such as Grapevines to promote A Bug's Life, Lawn for Home Improvement, and Greek Pot for Hercules.
