Disney first revealed plans to come out with a book targeted towards young girls aged 6-10 on day 1 of the 2005 Bologna Children's Book Fair on April 13. The Disney Fairies trademark was then filed on May 27 of the same year[1], making it the very first istnace of the name. The franchise was officially launched later on September 1[2], with the children's novel Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg, which was written by Newbery Honor-winning author Gail Carson Levine and illustrated by David Christiana.
