The Do It Center store concept and identity was drafted for American distributor Hardware Wholesalers, Inc. (HWI) by Canadian retail branding firm Don Watt + Associates, and finalized in September 1980[1]. A trademark for this logo was filed in October 1980, and the first store to test this branding was opened sometime in 1981, to great success. Parent company HWI merged with Minnesota-based co-op Our Own Hardware to form Do It Best Corp., named after a store brand carried by the outlets. This logo can still be seen on older locations.
