Dwango is a telecommunications and media company based in Japan, currently a company of Kadokawa. The name itself derives from the US-based Dial-up Wide-Area Network Game Operation (DWANGO) service that shut down in 1998, as this company got its start as the service's Japanese operations which were doing well at the time of its overseas operations' shutdown. The company currently runs the popular video-sharing website Niconico and is the 100% owner of game developer Spike Chunsoft.
