On August 4, 2020, it was announced on Tuesday that the E! network's parent company NBCUniversal would be making cutbacks due to COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the end of E! News as a program. The news operation, however, has continued to maintain the website, and its social media presences, which was shown when they revealed an updated logo.

On October 20, 2022, the network announced that E! News would return as nightly program on November 14, 2022.
E! News was cancelled on September 25, 2025 after 34 years on linear television. The E! News brand would continue online.
