The channel was launched on 15 October 2013 as eToonz+ along with three other TV channels (eKasi+, eAfrica+ and eMovies+) on the newly-launched OpenView HD TV platform.[1] On 17 May 2017, eToonz+ and e.tv’s other variety channels (including eExtra, which had replaced eKasi+ on 1 April 2017, and eMovies Extra, which was launched in 2016) were also added on the paid DStv platform.[2]

On 10 November 2017, eToonz and eMovies+ dropped the multi-coloured squares and the + sign from their name, and introduced a uniform red square in their logos to match the parent e.tv channel. This was done as part of the #OurWorldIsRed advertising campaign.[3]
2019–present[]

With the rebrand of e.tv on 1 April 2019, the other e.tv specialty channels changed the font in their logos from FS Albert to Montserrat. For eToonz, the letters t, n and z were changed to Montserrat; the eyes remained the same.
