In July 2004, JCPenney sold 1,271 Eckerd locations to CVS Corporation, and 1,540 Eckerd locations to Jean Coutu. CVS' locations were converted to CVS Pharmacies between 2004 and 2005. Jean Coutu’s locations continued to operate, and were merged with their other subsidiary, Brooks Drugs. These locations would be purchased by Rite Aid in 2007, who would either convert or close them between 2007 and 2008.
