Econo Lodge (first era)[]
1965–1972[]
The Econo Lodge name first appeared on a U.S. trademark filing in 1965, registered to a company in Parsons, Kansas. The trademark later transferred to another company in Vestal, New York. The logo pictured above appeared as a photo of a mockup sign included with the application. Though this trademark was indeed registered, there exists no evidence that the Econo Lodge name was ever used in commerce on an actual motel property until the rights to the trademark were acquired by the Econo-Travel chain in 1972.
Econo-Travel[]
1969–1981[]
The Econo-Travel chain started in Norfolk, Virginia. The company acquired the "Econo Lodge" name in 1972 and slowly began using the brand on new properties during its expansion.
Econo Lodge (second era)[]
1972–1981[]
1981–1989[]
BETTER LOGO NEEDED |
By 1981, the "Econo-Travel" name was discontinued and all remaining properties were renamed Econo Lodge.
