The Eurovision Song Contest 2022 was held at the Palasport Olimpico (known as PalaAlpitour) in Turin. Italy won the 2021 contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands, represented by Måneskin with their song "Zitti e buoni". The event was presented by Rai.
The semi-finals were held on 10 and 12 May, and the grand final on 14 May. Ukraine won the contest, represented by Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra and their song "Stefania". However, due to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the winner country didn't still decided to host the contest because of the unknown future of Ukraine and other situations, on 25 July 2022, the host country for the edition in 2023 was decided to be held in the United Kingdom after a second place finish from Sam Ryder with his song "Spaceman". Later it became known that Eurovision in the UK will be on behalf of Ukraine in cooperation with Suspilne movlennia and the BBC.

The theme art and slogan "The Sound of Beauty" was revealed on 21 January 2022. The full details were unveiled on 24 January 2022 ahead of the semi-finals allocation draw. The identity was created by Rome based agency Flopicco[1], who also designed the current Rai identity.
41 countries were intended to participate, but Russia was excluded due to its invasion to Ukraine.
