Microsoft bought FASA Interactive in 1999, and with it the video game rights to FASA Corporation's physical games, BattleTech, MechWarrior, ShadowRun, and Crimson Skies. After FASA Corporation shutdown in 2001, Microsoft also inherited the full rights to Crimson Skies, as the PC game started development before the board game.
