This was the first time that Canal 13 collaborated with the then-new Televisión Nacional de Chile for the World Cup coverage. However, due to unknown reasons, Canal 13 would only broadcast the qualification matches for WM 74.
For the 1982 and 1986 World Cups, Canal 13's only affiliate, Telenorte, would rebroadcast live all the broadcast matches. The graphics used for 1982 were originally developed for Spanish broadcaster TVE, and were also used independently by Panamericana Televisión in Peru.
In 2003, Canal 13 stopped broadcasting any FIFA tournament, due a penalty given by OTI (after the channel refused to pay the monthly OTI association bill) and supported by the football association. This penalty ended in 2010. Though Canal 13 would be legally able to broadcast World Cups again with Brazil 2014, they did broadcast some qualification matches for South Africa 2010 in the meantime.
