Fantastic Foods was founded by Jim and Joan Rosen in 1975. The company's specialty was vegetarian convenience foods.

The original Fantastic Foods logo consisted of a graphic of a wave, mountain, and sun. Much like the Quiksilver logo, it bore a resemblance to the Japanese woodcut The Great Wave off Kanagawa.

1985–1994[]

The wave and mountain were refined in 1985, and the wordmark separated from the graphic. Strangely, this logo was previewed on select products months in advance of its "official" introduction[3], and did not completely replace the previous logo in advertising until the following year[4].

In 1994, Fantastic Foods refreshed its identity. The circular wave-and-mountain symbol was simplified, reduced in size, and incorporated into a composite mark with "FANTASTIC" in large letters. The red background and arched lettering would be carried over to all subsequent logo designs.

After close to four years of use, the 1994 logo was modified to incorporate the slogan "Always Natural." The wave-and-mountain symbol was also enlarged and redrawn.

In 2000, Fantastic Foods was acquired by Homegrown Naturals, the majority stakeholder in Annie's Homegrown[7].

Fantastic Foods rebranded as "Fantastic World Foods" in 2006. The Fantastic logo was refreshed to match, with a new typeface, octagonal form, and tilted orientation suggesting the look of a vintage luggage label. The wave-and-mountain symbol used since 1975 was replaced by a compass rose bearing the words "Never Ending Discovery."

In November 2008, Annie's sold Fantastic Foods "to an unrelated third party" revealed to be United Natural Foods, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.[9][10].

2014–2021[]

In 2014, the Fantastic World Foods logo was revised with rounded corners and a simplified compass rose. This version of the mark made a quiet debut on new products by the end of the year[11].

UNFI ultimately phased out the Fantastic brand and product line. The Fantastic World Foods website was taken offline after 2021, and presently redirects to UNFI.com.
