WCOV disaffiliated from CBS in early 1986, when Selma-licensed WAKA moved its operations to Montgomery, negating the need for two stations to transmit programming to the entire market. WCOV became an independent station. On October 9, 1986, WCOV becomes a FOX affiliate.
