On February 4, 2002, Speedvision became Speed Channel after its purchase by News Corporation.

In late 2005, Speed Channel rebranded themselves as Speed, cancelling some shows including NASCAR Nation. Sometime in 2007, the change became official, as the word "channel" was dropped from its logo.

After the closure of the American feed of Speed in 2013, it was still available on select cable providers in Canada, the Caribbean and Puerto Rico until 2015.

On March 5, 2013, News Corporation announced that Speed would rebrand as Fox Sports 1, which took place on August 17, 2013.

Starting in June 2015, a new wordmark was slowly introduced, beginning alongside a redesigned ticker, before being used during college football broadcasts and promos. In August 2015, the network officially began to be called on-air as FS1, with the network's social media pages adopting the name and logo on September 4, 2015.
