Launched:  October 1977

This wordmark, introduced with the following logo, would be the longest used of the chain, carrying over into the logo after (and even formerly used with it as an alternate variant as signage on some locations).

Despite the introduction of the next 3 logos since then, this was still used alongside the next one (as an external sign) at a location in Culver City, CA before finally being updated to the current one in 2011.

1980–1985, 1986–2009[]

JackInTheBoxLogo
Designer:  Unknown
Typography:  Unknown
Launched:  March 2, 1980

On March 2, 1980, the company modified their 1978 logo. Changes are that the name is basically written in the same font but this time inside the red diamond. The wordmark is stacked, and Jack was removed from the logo. In 1986, Monterey Jack's changed their name back to Jack in the Box and the 1980 logo returned.

Very few locations, if any, still use this logo, since nearly all of them have been updated to the current logo throughout the 2010s.

Monterey Jack's[]

Monterey Jack's - 1985
Designer:  S&O Consultants
Typography:  Tribune (modified)
Launched:  May 20, 1985

To help chase their then-target crowd of affluent "yuppies", Jack in the Box was rebranded as the more-upscale Monterey Jack's on May 20, 1985. This was a disaster and the chain returned to their original name in 1986.

Launched:  March 16, 2009

On March 16, 2009, Jack in the Box launched its new identity. It was officially launched with a series of Super Bowl advertisements in which Jack gets hit by a bus, followed by his injury. In the fourth one, Jack gets rid of the 1980 logo and puts the new one on.

Designer:  Unknown

Launched:  August 27, 2022 (soft-launch)
October 4, 2022 (official)[1]

This logo was first spotted on its franchising website on August 27, 2022. It officially replaced the previous one outright starting on October 4 of the same year (alongside the revival of its Double Bonus Jack combo meal).[1] The logo is the same as before, but the font for "in the box" has been changed to a friendlier geometric one, as opposed to the round blocky one used in the previous logo. However, some locations still have the previous logo on their sign.
