The logo shortlist was unveiled on 3 August 2020 for public comments open, it was narrowed down to 5 out of 5,894 designs submitted as part of an open competition that was launched in November 2019. The public comments for opinions closed on 11 August 2020, the winner was announced on 25 August 2020.

Horizontal logo
The logo was unveiled on 25 August 2020. Option E by Tamotsu Shimada, head of Team Inari was the winner of the shortlist, The logo design features ‘bouncing’ red cells used from the 1970 Expo symbolising life and co-creation, essential aspects of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, with its theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”.
