The station originally signed on channel 20 as W29AH on September 28, 1989 and originally carried the Video Jukebox Network. The station was owned by Venture Technologies Group since its inception.

On January 19, 1995, channel 29 began affiliating with The WB Television Network.

Channel 19 in Johnstown was officially re-activated on July 27, 1996 as WTWB-TV (now a independent affiliate as WPKD-TV) and channel 29 became a full-time relay of WBPA.
1998–2004[]
1998–2002[]
In 1998, WBPA began affiliating with UPN after channel 19 signed a deal with the network. On November of that same year, Viacom's Paramount Stations Group purchased WNPA from Venture and separated channel 29 from 19.
2002–2004[]
2004–2006[]
In 2005, the station moved to channel 30.
2020–present[]
In 2020, the station was converted to digital.
