WNEV-TV[]

1982–1987[]

WNEV SE7EN

Channel 7 from Boston was relaunched under a new license and ownership as WNEV-TV at 5:55 AM on May 22, 1982 after being sold from RKO General as WNAC-TV, although the CBS Affiliate stuck with this TV station until 1995. The call letters originally stood for New England Vision, derived from the owner and operator at that time, New England Television Corporation (NETV), ran by grocery magnate David Mugar. Here, this logo is also known as "SE7EN".

1987–1990[]

Wnev dots

In mid-August 1987, WNEV overhauled its on-air image. The station dropped its "SE7EN" identity in favor of a new logo, which consisted of the number "7" made up of seven white dots inside of a blue circle. The logo was introduced as a part of the new station-wide campaign, "We're All on the Same Team", in which the seven dots represented the heads of team members. The dots also had dual usage, as lottery balls, in promotions for Lottery Live, the Massachusetts State Lottery drawings which were moving to WNEV late that summer.

WHDH (-TV)[]

1990–1993[]

The 1987 logo was carried over when WNEV changed its call letters to the current WHDH on March 12, 1990, when New England Television acquired WHDH-AM on August 7, 1989.

1993–present[]

Mugar sold WHDH to Sunbeam Television (then owned by Worcester native Ed Ansin) on April 22, 1993. As a result, it adopted a different "circle 7" logo, this time borrowed from now-sister station WSVN in Miami–Fort Lauderdale; the logo has been used by the station ever since, surviving two network affiliation changes.
