Parent company Food Fair, Inc. would open the first Pantry Pride store in 1964, which would grow to eclipse its namesake chain. In 1978, they would file for bankruptcy, with sister store J.M. Fields being shuttered and a large fraction of their grocery stores sold. All grocery operations would be consolidated into the Pantry Pride name, with the last Food Fair-branded stores, located in Virginia, being converted into Pantry Pride locations in 1979.
