Food Town[]
1957–1983[]
"LFPINC/SC/VA" was an acronym that stood for "Lowest Food Prices in North Carolina/South Carolina/Virginia"
Food Lion[]
1983–2007[]
Food Lion was originally launched as Food Town, retaining that name until 1983 when they decided to adopt a new name to avoid conflicts with another Food Town chain in the Richmond, VA area and a series of (unrelated) Food Towns in Tennessee as they expanded. The lion in the logo was borrowed from the chain's parent company, Delhaize.
2007–2014[]
In 2007, the Food Lion logo was slightly modified by removing the yellow background of the logo, as part of the chain's 50th anniversary.
2014–present[]
In 2014, Food Lion made a update to its logo. The box was removed and the lion was changed to black.
