On May 29, 2024, Gainax announced that it has filed for bankruptcy with the Tokyo District Court, which was publicly announced on June 7th, over one week later, ending its operations after almost 40 years of existence. Khara purchased the Gainax trademark and brand to distinguish itself from all of the now-unrelated spin-off entities bearing the "Gainax" name.[1][2]
