GameStop began as Software Etc.'s foray into the video game retail market, and as such the logo uses a modified form of Software Etc.'s type style. The first GameStop location opened on September 21, 1991 at Southdale Center in Edina, Minnesota. In 1994, Software, Etc. merged with Babbage's to form NeoStar Retail Group.
