1976–1978 (prototype)[]
Garfield started in January 1976 as a prototype comic strip named Jon published by the Pendleton (Indiana) Times from January 8, 1976 to March 2, 1978. The strip would be renamed Garfield on September 1, 1977.
1978–2020[]
This logo was used in the Garfield comic strip since the first day of being nationally distributed on June 19, 1978, as well as the comic book series published by KaBOOM! Studios. It is also used in the archives made by Ballantine Books. The final use of this logo on the regular Garfield compilation books was on the cover of the 69th book, Garfield: Easy As Pie. The typeface used is Cooper Black.
1981–1988[]

This logo was used on Sunday title panels from March 29, 1981 to July 21, 1985, as well as the title cards of seven Garfield TV specials. The typeface used is a slightly modified version of Korinna.
1985-1993[]

This logo first appeared on the July 28, 1985 strip, when it began using a different Sunday title panel each week; it was last used on March 3, 1991. Since the March 10, 1991 strip, the Garfield wordmark appears in varying styles in the title panel. Despite this, it was still seen on German comic books until 1993.

This logo was first used on Garfield and Friends. It was still seen on the front covers of coloring books as late as 2007.
1995–present[]
The first known appearance of this logo was on the cover for the video game Garfield: Caught in the Act. By 2004, it had replaced the 1988 logo in most merchandise and other purposes.
