This logo debuted at GM's Futurama Pavilion at the New York World's Fair. It was used sparsely but served as the basis for the successor logo in 1966.

1966–2021[]

In 1966, GM added a rectangle to enclose the basic logo from 1964. This logo appeared on all GM 1967 model-year vehicles. It was referred to as the "Mark of Excellence".

From at least 2016 until 2021, this was GM's main logo on its website and high-tech branches. On cars and dealerships, the square logo was still in use. This still appears at its Westlake Village, CA office.

On January 8, 2021, GM launched a new logo for the first time since 1964, emphasizing its focus towards electric vehicles. The company also introduced a new slogan, "Everybody In" with the letters 'EV' highlighted in blue to signify electric vehicles.
