In 1915, William Francis O'Neill, a former owner of a Firestone franchise in Kansas City, Missouri, formed The General Tire & Rubber Company.
1924–1929[]

1941–1950[]

In 1943, General Tire expanded beyond tires by buying Boston-based radio network The Yankee Network, and later acquired other radio stations over the years.
1950–1962[]

In 1955, General Tire acquired RKO Pictures from Howard Hughes and formed RKO General for RKO and its other broadcasting assets.
1962–2007[]
In 1984, General streamlined itself and formed GenCorp Inc. (now Aerojet Rocketdyne) as a holding company for its different ventures. In 1987, GenCorp sold off its different business units (including its tire division, which it sold to Continental AG the same year) to focus on Aerojet and to ward off a hostile takeover.
