In February 2021, Gojek was reported to be in a near merger with e-commerce site Tokopedia before being publicly listed on US and Indonesian stock markets.
On 17 May 2021, Tokopedia and Gojek announced the completion of the merger, formed a new holding company called GoTo (derived from respective two companies' brand name) that operates under three divisions: on-demand (Gojek), e-commerce (Tokopedia), and financial services under new GoTo Financial umbrella, which includes GoPay.
