Transvaal Rugby Union
Alternate logo (1980s)
This alternate logo, with the Transvaal Rugby Union coat of arms encased in a frame resembling a stylised version of the Ellis Park - their home stadium - seen from above, was used in matchday programmes throughout the 1980s.
The Transvaal team was renamed to its nickname, Lions. The name changed to Lions after the Transvaal Province (whose largest city is Johannesburg, where the team is based) was renamed to Gauteng Province.
