After narrowly surviving a rash of store closures and a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing the year prior, the original Goody's chain filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in January 2009, and liquidated all of its stores by mid-2009.

Goodys - 2009

In July 2009, Stage Stores acquired the Goody's trademark and began their revitalization effort by reopening old locations that had not yet been repurposed. In 2019, plans were announced to convert all Stage-owned retailers to the Gordmans name by the end of 2020, but Stage’s own bankruptcy in May 2020 put these plans on hold indefinitely. As a buyer could not be found for Stage, all of its stores were liquidated and shuttered by the end of the year.
