Since 2015, Google Wallet acted more like PayPal or a Bitcoin wallet, in which one can send money to others. On January 8, 2018, Google Wallet's features were merged into Android Pay to form Google Pay.

In February 2018, the Google Wallet app for Android was rebranded as Google Pay Send, while on iOS the app was simply named "Google Pay".
Google Pay Send was discontinued in 2020.
