On January 8, 2018, Google Wallet was merged into Android Pay and was renamed Google Pay.
In 2020 a separate version of Google Pay (also referred to as GPay) was launched in the United States and Singapore replacing the international app, although it still remains somewhat functional.

On May 11, 2022, during Google I/O, Google announced that they would revive Google Wallet brand replacing the Google Pay brand in all markets except the US and Singapore where they will co-exist, and in India where Google Wallet won't be available.[1] Google Wallet started rolling out on July 18.
