Launched on 22 March 2000, HBO South Asia was an English movie channel showing Hollywood movies. It was based in India and it was also available in Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Maldives. This is in contrast to HBO in other regions, where it is perceived as a premium subscription service mostly known for original content. It and its sister channels WB and HBO HD all closed down on 15 December 2020.

HBO and WB India were owned by Turner India (later WarnerMedia India) rather than directly by the parent WarnerMedia. They competed with Sony Pix, Star Movies, &flix and Movies Now. Turner India also briefly had two premium ad-free channels (HBO Hits and HBO Defined) in 2013–2015 that were more in line with other global HBO channels, programming-wise.
