HBO South Asia is an English movie channel showing Hollywood movies. It is based in India and it is also available in Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Maldives. This is in contrast to HBO in other regions, where it is perceived as a premium subscription service mostly known for original content.

Furthermore, HBO South Asia is owned by Turner Broadcasting System Asia-Pacific, while other HBO channels worldwide are owned directly by WarnerMedia and never by Turner Broadcasting System.

In India, HBO has a similar sister channel, WB, that also shows Hollywood movies. They compete with such channels as Sony Pix, Star Movies, &flix and Movies Now. Turner India also briefly had two premium ad-free channels—HBO Hits and HBO Defined—from 2013 to 2015 that were more in line with other global HBO channels, programming-wise.

HBO HD (India only)

While the premium HBO Hits and HBO Defined channels were available in HD since their launch in 2013, as were most other Hollywood channels in India by 2015, this was not the case for the main HBO channel until 4 September 2016, when HBO HD was launched to replace HBO Hits HD. (HBO Hits SD, as well as HBO Defined SD and HD, had all shut down on 31 December 2015; HBO Hits HD continued to run until 4 September.)
