HDCAM is a professional digital high-definition videotape format that was created by Sony in 1997. This format was made as an early form of digital cinema. It was used for the Star Wars prequel trilogy (mainly Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith). Sony discontinued the format in 2016 in favor of tapeless formats.
