It was announced on April 16, 2012 that Luken Communications and Jim Owens Entertainment will bring back TNN as a country music-oriented digital multicast network, as the original was renamed as Spike (now Paramount Network) in 2003. It launched on November 1, 2012.

On October 9, 2013, The Nashville Network rebranded into Heartland
