1967–1972[]
Hidden Valley began as a salad dressing concocted by the owner of Hidden Valley Ranch, a California dude ranch opened in 1954. The salad dressing became popular with guests, and the owners eventually began selling packets of dry mix so it could be made at home. Over the years, the original dressing became known as "ranch".
1972–2000[]
The Clorox Company purchased the brand in 1972.
1997–2000[]
In 1997, Hidden Valley began transitioning away from using the word "ranch" in its name, as it was producing products and dressing varieties other than ranch. The previous wordmark was still used elsewhere on the packaging.
2000–present[]
