On 22 September 1955, ITV was established as a British terrestrial television network as "Independent Television", then in 1963, they renamed themselves as "ITV", then on 11 August 2001, ITV as a television network renamed themselves as "ITV1" probably because of the ITV2 channel, and finally on 14 January 2013, the then-8-year-old British mass media company ITV plc renamed ITV1 back to "ITV" its 1963 to 2001 name as part of a major rebrand.
