It's established by Salim Group and began its broadcast on January 11, 1995. It's the the first TV station in Indonesia to use the NICAM audio system. In 2004, Indosiar have became a part of Indosiar Karya Media (formerly Indovisual Citra Persada). 7 years later, Indosiar Karya Media was bought by EMTEK and mergered with SCM 2 years after. Since then, Indosiar was operated under SCM along with [[SCTV]].
 
 
Indosiar broadcasts are mainly focusing on cultural programs, talent shows, and television drama series. The station also broadcasts some imported programs from East Asian countries such as K-drama, anime, and tokusatsu. Indosiar is also well-known as Indonesia's largest anime broadcasting network by the local anime & manga fans during the 2000s-early 2010s with about 60+ anime titles were broadcasted on the station in that period.

The main logo of Indosiar, was used from the launch until 2015, and still used for several times until now. The logo was based on the [[Television Broadcasts Limited|TVB Ltd.]]'s logo, but except the color order of the circle was changed & the logo also has the "INDOSIAR" text at the middle of the circle. The fact that TVB had also helped Indosiar's development at the first years.

The "flying fish" logo was also used on-air from March/April 2007 until March 16, 2012. The logo was used to resemble Indosiar's mascot. The original version of this logo has the rainbow colors on the fish's fin/wing. Although the logo was not used anymore, the flying fish mascot still existed until 2015, and might be re-appear again.
