According to Lippincott & Margulies, the firm behind the rebrand, the Inmont name came from a shortening of “International Marketing Of New Technologies”.
In 1981, Inmont was acquired by United Technologies.
In mid-1985, Inmont was acquired by BASF after only four years as a subsidiary of United.
In 1991, the division dropped the Inmont name.
