On May 11, 2016, Instagram ditched its original polaroid-styled logo in favor of a modern interpretation. The new look was accompanied by an update of the application's interface. When the new look launch was unveiled, it proved a divisive figure as users initially expressed general distaste of the new logo.

Instagram introduced a new logo on May 16, 2022, shortly after the sixth anniversary of the previous icon's introduction. The colors are more saturated than in the 2016 logo. Additionally, a new brand typeface named Instagram Sans was introduced in multiple styles, to be used in Reels and Stories.
