On June 19, 2020, Skyblock would be renamed to Skyblox as the original name was a registered trademark and was causing legal issues. The name change would not prove to be enough to solve the problems though, as the game would later be forced to shut down on July 14, 2020 due to a DMCA request.

After being down for several days, the game would reopen on July 17, 2020 under the name "Islands."
On November 7, 2023, Easy.gg announced that they would stop updating the game for the foreseeable future, however the game will still remain publicly available to play.
