Italia Trasporto Aereo S.p.A., trading as ITA Airways, is the new flag carrier airline of Italy, which officially replaced Alitalia as Italy’s largest airline and flag carrier on 15 October 2021. On 29 October, it joined the SkyTeam alliance, of which Alitalia was previously a member, and left on 3 February 2025.
ITA Airways joined the SkyTeam alliance on 29 October 2021, only two weeks after its launch, becoming the first new airline to join the alliance since Garuda Indonesia in March 2014. However, it left on 3 February 2025 following its acquisition by the Lufthansa Group. As result, the airline planned to join Star Alliance in 2026, and will become the first full member to join since Air India in 2014.
