Jet Airways was an Indian full-service carrier that was launched in 1993 and went on to become one of the country’s most successful privately-run airlines. However, faced with rising debts and immense competition from low-cost carriers, it suspended all operations temporarily on 17 April 2019 as it did not have the funds to continue operations further. In the following months, the airline filed for bankruptcy, permanently ceasing operations.
Jet Airways’ collapse is the second such collapse of an Indian full-service carrier in the 2010s, after Kingfisher Airlines in 2012. This leaves the state-owned Air India and the privately-owned Vistara as the only full-service airlines in India.
