Jornal Nacional (abbreviated JN) is TV Globo's flagship newscast, broadcast since 1969. It is the longest-running newscast of the channel.

On September 1st 1969, the first phase of the current Jornal da Globo was replaced by the current Jornal Nacional. The name Jornal Nacional was chosen due to 2 reasons:

  1. The newscast was sponsored by the Banco Nacional (and eventually by the full Grupo Nacional).
  2. The newscast, unlike many others at the time, was the first to be broadcast nationwide in Brazil, though only to Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Porto Alegre at first.

The logo basically consisted on the word "JN" written in Microgramma, a typeface extensively used by the then-called Rede Globo during that era.

As Rede Globo began transitioning to color television in 1972, the logo for Jornal Nacional was slightly modified. Now, the letters "J" and "N" have been attached to form a ligature, and the 1966 Rede Globo symbol was placed next to the "N".

As Rede Globo changed its logo to their famous symbol on March 8, 1976, all newscasts changed their logo, including Jornal Nacional. Now, the logo consisted on the word "JN" written in a different sans-serif typeface, with the Rede Globo symbol placed above the "J".
