KBVO originated as KLNO (which changed to KXAM-TV one month later), a satellite of Austin NBC affiliate KXAN-TV, relaying KXAN's programming to the Hill Country region of Central Texas. The call letters meant for its city of license, Llano.

In 2009, KXAM changed its callsign to KBVO (a callsign previously used by now-CBS affiliate KEYE-TV) and ceased to be a satellite of KXAN, adopting its own schedule and becoming the MyNetworkTV affiliate for the Austin market.
